What I Packed For A Weekend Trip

Travel Bag Essential Makeup What I Packed For A Weekend Trip

I recently posted the contents of my makeup travel bag on Instagram and received questions about specific products. Inspired by Tiffany at Will Work For Makeup’s Packing light and just right post, I decided to share exactly what I packed.

Travel Bag Essentials What I Packed For A Weekend Trip

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light

I hesitated on whether to bring this. It does have shimmer particles that are extra visible in the sun (which I planned to be in all weekend). But ultimately I just love the finish this powder provides so much, I couldn’t leave it behind.

NARS Powder Blush in Madly

Madly has become my everyday, most-used blush. It adds dimension to the face in a no-effort sort of way. Plus, it goes with everything, so it’s always a safe bet when you’re not sure what looks you’ll be wearing.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette | my review

Every shade I’d use for everyday looks in a super-slim, sturdy case and a mirror.

Jouer Mineral Powder Bronzer in Suntan, Powder Eyeshadow in Peach, Tint in Fawnmy Jouer Instant Chic Collection review

I brought along almost all of the Instant Chic collection, minus the lip gloss in Starfish (which I love, I just don’t wear lip gloss often).

FACE atelier Pro Ultra Foundation in 4 Sand | my swatches

One of my favorite foundations. The small, light packaging and pump top lend themselves well to travel.

BECCA Beach Tint in Guava |  my beach tints review

I was going to the beach, so I couldn’t resist bringing along a beach tint. I chose Guava because the color works for both my lips and cheeks.

FLOWER Lash Knockout Volumizing Mascara

This just happens to be the mascara I’m using at the moment. I’ve been meaning to review the two FLOWER mascaras I have – they’re both great.

e.l.f. eyelash curler

It’s cheap, but fits my eye shape perfectly. I have a few of these and just leave one in my travel bag, so I’m never without a reliable eye lash curler.

Tarte Provocateur Pressed Mineral Powder with SPF 8 in Light 04

Last but not least, a face powder that helps control shine and gives a bit of coverage with a hint of SPF.

What’s in your weekend travel bag?

Hey Catherine, great picks! You managed to pack a lot of good stuff, even though the scale is definitely reasonable! I’d probably pack a shadow stick, cream blush, and a couple of easygoing lipsticks for a weekend away on top of the essentials (mascara, tinted moisturizer/foundation…) ;)

Thanks, Sunny! Sounds like a good group of products. A shadow stick is a great idea, I should’ve done that! ♥

  • Lily

I agree with Sunny. You managed to pack a lot of stuff! My makeup bag has minimal stuff. Just concealer, cream blush for lips and cheeks, powder, mascara and an eye shadow shade that works for the lids and brows.

Hi Lily! I’m pretty good at packing light and this was a bit of an uncharacteristically large stash, but since we were driving, I decided not to worry much about it. I like your minimal approach to packing and will probably go back to it next time I travel. I felt like I had a bit too much and didn’t use it all. ♥

  • Martha

Great picks! Eager to see the Flower mascara reviews, I’ve been thinking about purchasing one but just haven’t gotten around to it.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Martha! They are lovely. That green one in particular can be built up to impressive jet-black almost false-lash style lashes. ♥

  • Christine

Looks like you’re a much better packer than I am! :) Great picks too!!! I keep forgetting to review the Flower mascaras too! I think the volumizing is my favorite. They’re not too dramatic, so they’re great for a natural look or no-makeup days.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Christine! I feel like mascaras are hard to review, for me at least, because my self-portrait skills aren’t good enough to show the differences between the various formulas, haha. But I think this one may be my fav Flower mascara too, though idk, the other one I have it good too. It starts out really naturally but can be built up to impressive lengths! ♥

  • Makeup Matters

oooh I have to try the Flower mascara! Are you currently using a waterproof formula? I would love to read a review on that.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Liza! I don’t think either of them are waterproof. I thought I had a waterproof mascara but I must’ve used them all up bc I couldn’t find one when I was packing for this trip ♥

Ooo, thanks for the shout-out, Catherine! :) I still REALLY want to try more from Jouer but last time I checked, Nordstrom didn’t carry their tint in Honeysuckle so I gave up. I’ve heard such great things about their bronzer too, but I just CANNOT add another one to my collection right now, haha. By the way, what’s the coconut vanilla spray?

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Tiffany! Good eye – I must’ve managed to leave the section about the spray out. Oops! It’s from etsy seller Somethin Special. Thanks for commenting and catching that! ♥
