URBAN DECAY Naked Basics Palette

UD Naked Basics URBAN DECAY Naked Basics Palette

My last Eye-Catchers post included the Naked Basics palette. After going back and forth on whether to purchase, I finally caved and picked this up during Urban Decay’s recent Friends & Family sale…

If you love matte nudes, chances are you already have many similar shades in your stash. I know I do. But there’s still something to be said for Urban Decay’s beautiful formula. I figured I’d snap some photos before getting my brushes into them.

UD Naked Basics 2 URBAN DECAY Naked Basics Palette

UD Naked Basics Palette URBAN DECAY Naked Basics Palette

Venus: Called “demi-matte” but, to me, it’s less matte than Virgin from the original Naked palette. It’s a white with pearly white sheen

Foxy: Very pale burnt yellow beige

Walk Of Shame: Light beige pink

Naked 2: A light taupe-tan with grey undertones

Faint: Mid-to-dark neutral brown

Crave: A deep, dark black.

I found Foxy and W.O.S. less pigmented than I expected and the slightest bit chalky, but overall these shadows are high quality.

I’m not going to do swatches, because there’s a bazillion blogs that already have those. If you haven’t seen them, here are some good ones:

For anyone wondering how this compares to theBalm’s Meet Matt(e) Nude palette, I’ll have a comparison post up soon!

I appreciate that these are duplications of the nudes in 1 & 2 palettes. I love a good matte neutral. Isn’t t just the hardest to wait to photograph a product before dipping into it :-)

Haha it really is! I’m slowly getting better at remembering to “photo-first-test-later” ♥

    Such a must have!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

      It’s really a useful palette ♥

I love Urban Decay but I have so many shades already I need to stop myself from buying this!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Ohhh I can so relate. I really, REALLY did not need this… but it is nice ♥

I keep on swatching this palette in Sephora but end up never buying it. I love the design but I find that the color is way to similar with the Naked 1 and 2 so I have decided to pass on this. This is pretty though! :D

As lovely as it is, if you have Naked 1 & 2 or similar palettes, it’s definitely not a must-have. All the shades are pretty easily duped, except Naked 2. ♥

I like the idea of this palette, but I don’t wear mattes too well (for example, I can’t have a matte shade as my main lid shade. It does absolutely nothing in terms of brightening my eyes and that’s what I really need) so I passed. I’d love to see the comparisons though!

Hi Sunny! I agree it’s a nice idea, a good release from UD given how long people have asked for it. To me, I would call this a true “naked” palette as in “no makeup makeup” looks, whereas the Naked palettes are more neutral-color palettes. A light matte does brighten for me, but a satin finish is often even better, which is why I do like that they included the demi-matte shade. But if you don’t use lots of mattes, it’s definitely one to pass on ♥

Look a bit too matte for me but I imagine to use it with other eyeshadows I have in my collection. Do you experience fall-outs with the darker shades?

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Joanne! Very slight fall-out with the black, but I’d actually say less than with other super-pigmented blacks I’ve used. ♥

Pretty! it seems like such a great basic palette to have around! I don’t know that I will necessarily buy it, but I can see why it’s so popular!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

My thoughts exactly… although I did buy it haha. It is a great palette but not a must-have if you already have similar matte neutrals ♥

I still haven’t purchased this Palette. It really looks so nice, though!!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Moxie! It is really nice, but I wouldn’t say it’s a must-have if you already have similar shades. It does come in handy – I’ve been reaching for it most days since I got it ♥

I kept debating the palette and finally caved during the sale too! :) I love the size of it and it seemed like the kind of thing I’d reach for all the time, but then the shades seemed so similar to everything else and not that different from one another. So I kept waiting. I must say, I still haven’t dipped into it! :/ I think that’s probably because it’s hidden away where I never see it tho! I really need to work on some organization! :)

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Haha I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who gets sucked in to those F&F sales ;) It is a very handy palette, I’ve been using it most days since I got it, it’s definitely convenient! Oh Christine I need to get my makeup organized, too… badly! Have you seen the MUJI acrylic organizers? I have a couple and they really, really help with staying organized… when I actually get in the habit of putting makeup back after using it, that is. Recently I just seem to leave everything laying around my room though… I think I’m kind of a hopeless case. ♥

I think this is a MUST have for me! Need to do some research to double check all the shades are vegan but I think you have convinced me :)
