Top Cruelty Free Products For Summer Top 5 Summer Must Haves | A CF Beauty Blog Collaboration

June 21 marks the official start of summer! This month, Christine, Liza, and I are showing you are top 5 summer must-haves. Their lovely posts:

Summer is my favorite season, so this turned out to be the hardest Top 5 post for me to narrow down – by far. I ended up with more general categories than specific products, though I tried to include specific favorites for each category.

Cream Textures

Everything is just a little more laid back and easy in the summertime. It’s the perfect time to embrace low-maintenance, apply-and-go cream formulas. Plus, the bright sun can make powder products extremely visible on skin.

I love the convienence of stick-style cream products, like the NYX Tango with Bronzing Stix (pictured above is Bronzy Lambada). I also appreciate the versatility of creams. Many can multitask – working for cheeks and lips, like BECCA Beach Tint (my review of Fig & Watermelon, though my favorite is Guava – pictured above).

When it comes to cream eyeshadows, there are so many long-wearing formulas on the market, which are perfect for withstanding summer heat. I like the FLOWER Beauty Color Play Crème Eyeshadow (my review), BECCA Eye Tint, and Essence Stay All Day Long Lasting Eyeshadow. Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencils and Milani Shadow Eyez are two other good ones which come in pencil form.

SPF (for face & lips!)

This one is a bit of a given, but I couldn’t overlook it. We all know it’s so important to wear sunscreen, but it’s easy to forget about protecting our lips from the sun as well. I’ve been using Jack Black lip balms. They’re a bit thick and I can’t say they’re my favorite fragrances, but they do an excellent job of keeping lips hydrated and protected with SPF 25. For a tinted option, I like the e.l.f. Conditioning Lip Balm, which has SPF 15. An opaque lipstick can also offer some protection.

A Lightweight Foundation

Bright sunlight makes me so happy, but when it comes to makeup, it’s totally unforgiving. For me, summer is time for lightweight base formulas that are undetectable on skin. I’ve done the “bright sunlight test” with many foundations and the results are sometimes surprising. Some foundations that are not at all visible even under bright vanity lights do show up in sunlight. If I know I’m going to be out in bright sunlight, I have two go-to’s:

I’ve mentioned it quite a few times, but I’m still loving the FLOWER Beauty About Face Foundation for light coverage that looks like your own skin (my review). For a fuller coverage that’s still looks completely skin-like, my go-to is FACE atelier Ultra Foundation. I swatched the full beautifully extensive shade range here.

Liquid Illuminators

A drop of Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer added to your body moisturizer is all you need to give skin a beautiful, light-reflecting sheen. It seems to emphasize my pores, so I don’t use it on my face. Instead, I opt for the almost legendary BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector. I use it either mixed with foundation or blended over my foundation in specific areas as highlighter.

Fragrance Oil

I know I’ve mentioned these a few times lately (most recently in Summertime Scents), but they’re a bit of a new obsession of mine. They’re perfect to throw in your bag for a weekend trip. Aside from smelling amazing, you can use them to hydrate skin and hair as you would any oil. One spray on the ends of my hair fights frizz and imparts fragrance that lasts all day.

What are your summer must-haves?

  • Christine

I almost included the Flower Creme Shadows and my runner up were the Milani Shadow Eyez! :) And I’ve been loving the Jack Black Lip Balm as a night treatment too. I ordered a few of the ELF Conditioning Lip Balms too and mainly went for the stick one because it’s easier on the go.

Love your approach to this post ’cause it was really hard to come up with only 5 things! :) I totally agree with your categories!!! :)

Thanks, Christine! I don’t like balms in pots that much usually, but this one is nice bc of the SPF ♥

      • Christine

The stick version I included has SPF too! :)

You’re a smart cookie, Catherine! Picking 5 summer must-haves is too difficult, so I like how you picked 5 categories instead. Cream shadows are a must-have for me in summer. Eyeshadows hold up much better on top of some cream shadow (and primer)! I also like some bronzer in summer. It’s something I tend to ignore in winter, but in summer it just makes me look a bit healthier :)

I actually suggested this topic… then realized how hard it was! I agree, cream shadows are perfect for summer. I go through phases with bronzer, but I’ve been using Hourglass Radiant Light daily since I got it a few months ago… it’s PERFECT for subtle warmth ♥

      • Christine

Ok, I think it’s clear that I finally need to try the Becca tints! Isn’t blogging great…until you look at your bank statements! :)

The Becca Beach tints are so pretty

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

      Aren’t they? I love Guava, it’s such a flattering warm pink ♥

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Great picks! Those Becca Beach Tints are THE BEST. I can’t go on vacation without them! If I’m going to be out all day in the sun, I reach for the Kiehl’s BB Cream lately-it has SPF 50 and looks great on.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

I KNOW, love the beach tints. Ohhh I haven’t tried the Kiehl’s BB Cream but I’ve actually been looking for a new base product with high SPF so I’ll check it out ♥

      • Christine

        Wow! SPF 50?!?! I’m impressed! :)

Beautiful picks! I love the Beach Tints and have had my eyes on Guava. I love cream products for the summer as well, it’s so hard to apply a dry powder in the heat.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Thanks, Taylor! Guava is such a gorgeous warm pink, so flattering. I find it works well on my lips too ♥

I totally agree with that e.l.f. cream blush! I have it in two shades myself and I love both.
