As I mentioned in my Zoya Dove review, I’ve been conducting a little experiment with the Qtica/Zoya Extending Top Coat.First, a little background: Generally, nail polish wears fairly well on me. I still tend to use top coats, because I feel they protect against chips and can give a couple extra days of wear, but I don’t find them totally essential.
So I decided to test how much of a difference top coats really make on my nails. On half my nails (every other nail), I applied this top coat over Zoya Dove. The other half went top coat-free.
The Extending Top Coat promises “5-7 days of chip free polish wear.” The thing is, I got a good six days of chip-free wear on all my nails, whether they had the top coat or not. I do feel like the nails with the top coat kept a “freshly polished” look longer and were the slightest bit glossier. But ultimately it’s hard to say whether wear was extended or not, because Zoya Dove wore so well on its own.
I felt like the brush was extra small and didn’t cover my nails as well at the usual Zoya polish brush, but it worked fine. It would’ve been nice if this contained fast dry properties (Zoya does offer a separate product for this: Half Time Drying Accelerator).
Overall, I’d say this is a pretty standard top coat – no bells and whistles, but it does its job. And sometimes that’s all you need.
