Quick Cat Eyes: NYX Eye Markers

NYX Marker Eye Liners Quick Cat Eyes: NYX Eye Markers

Maybe it’s a throwback to my inner Crayola-loving child, but these marker-style liners like NYX Super Fat Eye Marker and NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker have always intrigued me. A product that makes getting the definition of liquid liner as easy as drawing with a marker… sounds promising, right?

These look and feel essentially like your typical marker. They have felt tips. As you would guess, the felt tip of the Super Skinny is about 1/4th as thick as the Super Fat’s.

Whenever I’ve used liquid liner in the past, I’ve used my own brush – I can never get as thin a line as I want with the built-in brushes. I do find these are easier to work with than your average liquid liner.

If you just draw as you normally would with a marker, the Super Skinny line isn’t that much thinner than than the Super Fat line. But Super Skinny does have a much finer tip, so you can use that to draw with more precision. You can see, comparing the ends of the two lines, the Super Skinny tapers into a much thinner, neater point.

I used Super Skinny from my inner corner until ~2/3 on my eye, then switched to Super Fat for the outer corner. I did go back in with Super Skinny, for the tip of the wing. It’s glossy when applied, but dries to an almost matte finish. Excuse the jaundice look, by the way – I didn’t realize how bad the lighting was until I uploaded these photos the next day.

I wanted to show the liner alone, but if I wasn’t reviewing this, I would probably go over the very top edge of the liquid liner with black shadow and an angled brush, just to smooth out the line and diffuse the edge a tiny bit.

While these work well for winged liner looks, you can also use these just to subtly define your lash line (I personally would pick the Super Skinny for that). For me, they didn’t work well for tight lining – the ink just slid into my lash line once I blinked.

These lasted all day and did take a little extra effort to remove, but they’re not meant to be water proof. I was able to smudge them just using water and a cotton round.

One negative I saw on a few MakeupAlley reviews was that these markers dry up quickly. I’ve had these for about a month and at this point, I haven’t had that issue, but I have noticed the tip of the Super Fat has started to lose it’s shape. We’ll see whether these hold up over time. If they end up drying out soon, I’ll update.

Although I still favor using a separate brush, I really like these liners, especially for their ease of use and convenience. Once you get the technique down, you really can create a one minute cat eye.

I actually own both of these and haven’t tried them yet! I have the most difficult time trying to do a cat eye so I’m hoping they will do the trick. Nice review, your liner looks great!

Thanks, Tina! I feel like cat eyes are one of the trickiest eye looks, and I think these really help, especially if you’ve been using a traditional liquid liner. Once you get used to how these deposit color, it really does feel like just drawing with a marker. Let me know how you like them! ♥

The liner looks good! I like how black it is. No streaks… It looks smooth. Good job!

These look great on you–the liner looks so rich and creates the most perfect flick on your eyes! I generally don’t like liquid liner, but I have been curious about the marker pens. I think they’d be a lot easier to control than those thin, floppy brushes

Thanks, Becca! I’m not usually a huge liquid liner fan either but I think these are so cool. They’re kinda fun to use too. They definitely do give more control, especially compared to the built-in brushes a lot of liquid liners come with ♥

Thank you so much, Taylor! I love cat eyes, too, especially more subtle versions – they have such an eye lifting effect without totally dominating the look ♥
