The lovely Manuela at The Small Rabbit Hops nominated me for a Liebster Award. Thank you, Manuela! She writes all about cruelty-free information, products, regulations, and news. Her primary blog is actually in French, so if you speak French (or can muddle through with Google Translate), check it out here.
OK, you’re probably asking yourself, what’s a Liebster Award (I was, too). Here’s the deal:
It’s like a chain of letters, with a difference : we share blogs that we love!
But it doesn’t mean there’s no rules!
Here they are :
1- Once nominated, you have to publish about it on your blog & of course, thank the person who nammed you by linking to his or her blog.
2- In your post, you have to tell us 11 facts about you.
3- You’ll also have to answer the 11 questions the person who nammed you left on his or her blog.
4- Choose 11 other bloggers with under 200 followers to nominate (not the person who nominated you), link to their blog and make sure you let them know they are nominated.
5- Choose 11 questions you want to be answered
6- The new nominees have to do the same, so the chain goes on!
I did a little bit of a modified version of the tag. I’m not that great at talking about myself, so I skipped the first section, but I did all the rest. Here are my answers to Manuela’s questions:
1- I’m sure there is a question you wish I’d ask you. What is it & what’s the answer to it?
Ha well I’m not sure. Um, OK well if you asked me what I would change about my blog, I would probably say the name. I picked the domain name before I really had done much blogging and I wish I’d picked something more creative. I guess it’s nice that it’s straight-forward. I could always just give the blog a different name and it just won’t match the domain name. I briefly considered actually changing the domain name, but I quickly realized that the amount of work and risk-of-screwing-everything-up that would involve is just no where near worth it.
2- What is your favorite Cruelty Free product?
I don’t think I can pick just one, but the blog features many of them!
3- For what reason did you start writing your blog?
This blog is really a combination of so many things I love, but ultimately it’s #1 purpose is to help animals. For the full background story of how the blog came to be, check out the About page.
4- Who’s your celebrity crush?
Ryan Gosling. Maybe Jon Hamm, too… although until I saw Mad Men, I didn’t understand the appeal.
5- What is your favorite tv show and why?
Mad Men. I was hooked from the first scene. It’s just brilliant and thought-provoking and so entertaining. For comedy, my top pick is still Chappelle’s Show. It’s been off the air for a while now, but if a funnier show exists, I have yet to see it.
6- What are your life projects ?
I seem to always have a million projects going on, so I really couldn’t do justice to all them here. I don’t even know wear to start.
7- What would be your travel dream ? ( no budget limit!)
I would travel to each country in the world, over a few years. I’d take extended vacations to tropical areas and live in South America for a while.
8- If you could meet with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be ? And of course, why!
Oh wow. The possibilities are endless, I have no idea how I’d ever decide. There are many musicians, actors, and writers I’d like to meet, but if I had an opportunity like this, I’d really want to use it wisely. I’d like to have some discussions with the people who major religions are based around, like Jesus and the Buddha.
9- When you were a kid, what was the job you wanted to have as a grown up ?
I wanted to be an actor. Growing up, there was really no question in my mind – I felt I simply knew that’s what I would do with my life.
10- If you could travel time, what would you do ?
There are lots of times I’d like to visit, just to see what it was like. But I’d want to use that power to create to some sort of positive change, try to steer us away from some of the biggest disasters in history… although there are so many, which would I pick? But I’d also want to go to the future. The far future. And see what it’s like. That’s one thing I’ll never know about… I mean, there are books and records of past times, but I’ll not be here in 1,000 years. I wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to see where we’re headed.
11- If you were in charge of the planet & had all the powers (let’s say you’re a dictator), how would you rule the world & what would be your laws ? Don’t forget that with great power comes great responsibility!
Well, the first thing I’d do is surround myself with people far more qualified to make laws than I am. I’d spend a ton of time studying and researching before designing a plan of action. Although there are some actions I’d take immediately. Off the top of my head, a few priorities -
I’d create stricter penalties for animal abuse. I’d consult the research and experts to decide the exact details, but it would ensure all abuse crimes are non-expungeable felonies. I’d also create a mandatory registry for all animal abusers… they would be barred from ever working with or owning animals again for life. I would create sanctuaries for abused animals. I’d make dog fighting punishable by life in prison. I’d also create scholarships to help more people becoming veterinarians.
I’d try to reform how jobs are compensated in the US. Instead of the athletes and entertainers, I’d find a way to offer higher salaries for careers like counseling, teaching, and nursing. These are crucial jobs, society literally depends on them, yet they are also very undervalued. The payment does not align with the value of the job performed. I’d make it easier for people to legally immigrate to the US. I’d grant citizenship to all US-born children of undocumented immigrants, giving them the same rights as the peers they grew up with. I’d find ways to make services more accessible and affordable for individuals with mental illness and intellectual disabilities… OK I’ll stop now before this becomes a book!
