Merry Christmas, to all who celebrate! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day with family and friends. In the holiday spirit, I wanted to share one of my favorite makeup looks – an easy, low-maintenance take on classic Old Hollywood glamour - which feels particularly well-suited for the holiday season.
It’s simple, really – a red lip, jet black liner with a subtle wing, a satin shadow, lots of mascara, and natural-looking skin. The four products above are the keys. The basic steps:
For my base, I used FACE atelier Pro Ultra Foundation (my post/swatches) and FACE atelier Ultra Camoflauge Duet (my review). Then I applied Hourglass Radiant Light on my cheeks, temples, and the sides of my nose and NARS Madly on my cheeks. On my eyes, I used the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette (my review). I applied Foxy all over my lids to the brow bone, Naked 2 in the crease, Faint concentrated on the outer V, and Venus on the inner corner. Then, I applied Milani Shadow Eyez in Blank Ink (my review) as liner with the Real Techniques brow brush, keeping the line very thin on the inner corner and gradually thickening, forming a subtle flick at the outer corner. Along the top edge of the liner, I ran a bit of Urban Decay Crave shadow just to slightly soften the line. Then – layers and layers of mascara. I used FLOWER Beauty Lash Knockout Volumizing Mascara (my review).
On the lips, I applied the NYX lip pencil in 844 Deep Red, focusing on the outer edges then feathering it onto the rest of the lips, to avoid a stark lip line. Over that, I applied the amazing Tarte Glamazon Lipstick in Fierce, given to me by the very lovely Taylor of My Lucite Dreams.
Because it’s more of a polished makeup look, I wanted the hair to be the opposite. I kept it low-maintenance and air-dried, though I did channel the shape of the classic Veronica Lake curl, with a deep side part and a bit of extra wave added to the very front section of hair with an extra large curling wand.
