FACE atelier Ultra Camouflage Duet

FACE Atelier Duet Ultra Concealer Light FACE atelier Ultra Camouflage Duet

Designed to wear with my beloved FACE atelier Ultra Foundation (swatches), the FACE atelier Ultra Camouflage Duet ($33) consists of two concealer shades in small black compact (tiny mirror included). This water-resistant formula gives a natural, second-skin finish with a surprising amount of coverage.

The FACE atelier Ultra Camouflage Duet comes in four color options (Light, Medium, Dark, and Darker), each offering two coordinated concealer shades. FACE atelier recommends using “the golden shade to neutralize purple and red tones” and the neutral shade for “hiding blue and brown undertones.” You can also mix them to create a custom-color match for your skin. In my shade, Light, the lighter shade is more pink than neutral and significantly lighter than the darker shade, which is warmer with an almost orange-y tone.

This gives a very natural finish, yet I would say this gives a solid medium coverage.  There are few concealers I’d place in the “full coverage” category – the ones that come to mind are really, truly heavy-duty full coverage. This has enough pigment to cover most spots, but not very dark hyper-pigmentation or tattoos. It’s silky enough that I feel comfortable using it under my eyes, which I don’t do with full coverage concealers. I typically use this as just an undereye concealer, but when I tried it on blemishes, I was surprised by how well it covered. It covers my acne scars, which are quite a deep red.

At $33 for .014, it’s not inexpensive. The price point is similar to the NARS Duo Concealer, which I’ve owned in the past (and which is apparently now discontinued).  This has more of a silicone-smooth feel, while the NARS feels waxier. Both are lovely concealers that I would repurchase. The packaging is very similar to the Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer Duos (which I’ve also used in the past). The Eve Pearl is extremely moisturizing, which feels great on the skin but I also found I went through it very quickly.

While FACE atelier recommends using this with the Ultra Foundation, of course you can wear it with whatever foundation you favor. It’s definitely worth checking out the Pro Tips section (scroll down) on the FACE atelier site, as they have a lot of good ideas, like adding their Ultra Sheer Champagne to create a light-reflecting concealer.

To give you an idea of the coverage this provides, compare my left and right undereye areas in the photo above. On the left, I’m wearing no concealer and I’m wearing Ultra Camouflage on the right. Sidenote: On my lashes, I’m wearing FLOWER Beauty Lash Knockout Volumizing Mascara (my review).

FACE atelier can be tricky to find in stores, but it’s available from a number of online retailers, including faceatelier.comblush.com, and whiterabbitbeauty.com.

Note 3/9/14: While many of FACE atelier’s products are vegan, this concealer is not, as it contains beeswax. Thank you to reader Makeup Artist for pointing this out!

Hey Catherine, it doesn’t look like you need a lot of concealing under your eyes to begin with, but I can see the difference :) I normally avoid concealers in pots because I’m too lazy to use a brush most of the time, but I know some really good formulas only exist in pots! Might have to finally get over it soon ;)

Hi Sunny! Thanks, that’s nice to hear :) I’ve always had lines under my eyes since I was little, but I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older that I have more blueness/purpleness, it always looks so noticeable to me. This does a great job of covering that without looking like tons of makeup. I always use my fingers, not a brush – I know brushes are way more hygienic but I usually can’t be bothered. Which types of concealer do you favor? ♥

Hey Catherine, yeah the sleep-deprivation thing only gets worse as we age haha But it’s really really not bad in your case!

I like stick concealers the most! It’s easy to just roll them on and blend them out with a finger, though I know that most of the time they still look better with a brush! It’s more precise that way.

Ahh yeah I do like stick concealers, applying them that way works well for me too. I have an UD pencil-style one that I like, but other than that I don’t think I have any other great stick/pencil-style concealers in my collection at the moment ♥

This sounds like a great concealer! I like that it’s creamy-I’m finding concealers are so dry and settle into fine lines under my eyes lately. This sounds like it wouldn’t do that!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hi Tracy! This definitely is creamy and feels really, really smooth. It’s not as hydrating as, say, the Eve Pearl, but it’s not drying in the least. It will settle into the line directly under my eyes (every concealer I’ve used does that), but other than that, no line-settling, so I think this could be a good one to try! ♥

It took a while for me to see the difference, Catherine. You can get away without concealers under your eyes in the first place! Jealous >_<

Thanks, Lily, that’s nice to hear. It’s funny, it looks so glaringly obvious to me. I guess I just see the purple/blue tones under my eyes immediately. ♥

    • Christine

      Totally agree! :)

The color definitely looks good, and I like that it provides more than decent coverage without looking cakey!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Me too! It’s really a natural finish, which seems true of all the FACE atelier products I’ve tried ♥

Hi Heather! The color I have is Light. The swatch on the left is the lighter shade (on the left in the compact) and on the right is the darker, warmer shade (on right in compact). ♥

  • Christine

Oh no. Another thing I want to try! :) I just tried the Foundation and it is insanely good! The color match to my skin was more exact than anything I’ve ever used before…and I guessed from online swatches! :) The concealer looks wonderful, although I don’t love concealers in pots. I can deal with that though! :) I love that there are two shades for different purposes too.

These concealers contain beeswax, so aren’t exactly cruelty free… Which is a total shame, because I love the FA Ultra Pro foundation, and these would have been perfect to go with them.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. I’m including a note in the post pointing this out and just giving a heads up that unlike many FACE products, this isn’t vegan ♥
