Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

Today’s post is the first in a long overdue series I’m calling “Daily Reads.” The blogosphere is full of beautiful, creative, inspiring blogs. In each “Daily Reads” post, I will share a handful of blogs that I, quite literally, read daily. This first installment of beauty-blog-adoration features The Beauty Sample, My Lucite Dreams, Mostly Sunny, and Life’s Entropy.

The Beauty Sample Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

When I first stumbled onto The Beauty Sample, I was immediately drawn in. Partly due to the beautiful photography, partly due to the types of brands and products featured, and most of all, because you simply can’t read Becca’s blog without feeling some of her enthusiasm rub off on you. It feels like chatting with a close friend – who totally gets your beauty addiction. Yet for all her positivity, Becca always gives thorough, honest reviews and lists the drawbacks of a product alongside the raves. The Beauty Sample is a blog you feel you can trust – and it’s led to more of my recent beauty purchases than I care to recount. icon wink Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

My Lucite Dreams Logo2 Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

Taylor My Lucite Dreams Daily Reads | Beauty Blog GoldAnother blog that immediately resonated with me, My Lucite Dreams is like a wonderland of understated gorgeousness. Taylor is a blogger that appreciates the nuances of subtly. Her “less is more” beauty philosophy is very much in line with my own. In addition to being physically stunning, Taylor is a very kind, thoughtful person who stresses that true beauty is internal. She’s also my winged eyeliner inspiration, having perfected the technique of creating the most flawless, subtle flick.

Mostly Sunny Blog Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

Mostly Sunny Daily Reads | Beauty Blog GoldI aspire to blog with half the efficiency of Sunny at Mostly Sunny. Sunny churns out posts at impressive speed with near daily updates – yet each post looks like it took hours and hours to create. Hailing from Taiwan and based in Belgium, Sunny is a freelance translator – and on Mostly Sunny, she’s “your beauty culture translator.” She features a diverse range of products, with an emphasis on high end/luxury brands. Sunny also shares my (/half the internet’s) cat obsession – so you’ll sometimes be treated to an appearance from adorable Muffin and Tango.

Lifes Entopy Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

Jane Lifes Entropy Daily Reads | Beauty Blog Gold

Life’s Entropy is a relatively new find for me. After landing on the blog, my first thought was “how am I just discovering this now?” Simply put: the layout is stunning. Jane’s images and graphics are works of art in and of themselves. Which makes sense – Jane says one of the reasons she started Life’s Entropy was to give an outlet for her interest in graphic design. Beyond the aesthetics, Life’s Entropy is also an incredibly helpful beauty blog. Jane has meticulous swatches of so many products from all prices ranges and is always adding more. I suppose there’s probably some potential profound meaning in the fact that, on a blog that’s title means “life’s randomness,” everything fits together so perfectly.

Just a note, which hopefully isn’t necessary but just in case:

Most of these bloggers are not exclusively cruelty-free. Of course that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying their posts – simply don’t purchase the products that aren’t cruelty-free. If you see a product you love that’s not cruelty-free, taking the time to contact the company truly can make a difference.

What are some of your daily reads?

Aww thanks so much Catherine! I’m immensely flattered and I’m in GREAT company here <3 Muffin and Tango say hi from their sunbathing spots. The weather has been great here for a change!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

You are so welcome, Sunny! Aww give them pets for me :) Wait, isn’t there a new addition to your cat-family? ♥

Well the thing with the rescue tabby girl is that she could be FIV positive. The promise I made to my boyfriend when I picked her up was I would just get her in shape and then find her a home, and this FIV thing complicates things. Think about it like HIV for human. Normally cats don’t get it unless there is a vicious fight that draws blood, but this will always be a concern when you keep an FIV positive cat with FIV negative cats.

Her first lab test came back negative, though the test at the vet’s was positive and she does show symptoms of an FIV positive cats (she’s young but she has lost 3 of her canines, her nose infection wouldn’t go away even after almost a month’s worth of antibiotics…). We’re waiting till mid-May to do the test again. If she does turn out to be FIV positive, there is an organization here that specializes in rehousing FIV positive cats. They keep a maximum of 7 cats at the same time. They have a great environment (so many cat trees, beds, toys, an enclosed outdoor area, volunteers to cuddle with and so on), and most people who adopt from there probably already own FIV positive cats so they have more experience in a way.

For the moment she’s doing great here. She’s more comfortable outside of our study I kept her in (to make sure she wasn’t carrying anything fatal and contagious), and Muffin is more relaxed around her (Tango has been good from the start). She’s a super sweet little girl and I believe she deserves a great home, it’s just that it’s probably not with us. In any case though, I’ll see to it that she stays a happy kitty :)

Oh wow what you’re doing is amazing, Sunny. I definitely see how unfortunately FIV+ does complicate things. Poor kitty. I imagine that the people who would be most likely to adopt her would be true cat lovers, but the problem there is many likely already have cat(s!) of their own, who may not be FIV+. I know that’d be my situation. It’s wonderful that there’s an organization specializing in helping cats that are FIV+. I remember seeing an organization in the US like that, I need to look it up again because it’s amazing. It’s like a sanctuary for “less adoptable” cats – many have really severe injuries or disabilities, but they have a place to stay until they get adopted. And if they don’t, they get to live out their lives happily there. And they’ve got a darn good setup there – indoor and outdoor roaming areas, lots of toys and space, volunteers coming in to play with them… it’s really heartwarming.

It’s so great that Tango and Muffin are good with her. I tried to foster a cat once but the cat ended up getting really aggressive with my cat (to be fair, Gia wasn’t the most welcoming of hosts). I introduced them following all the rules, and finally let them in the same area after days of smelling each other through a glass door… everything seemed fine, then all of a sudden hisses and claws starting flying. Luckily, Gia chose flight over fight – so she escaped unscathed, just a little shaken up. Unfortunately I think the experience has been etched in her memory, so I don’t anticipate being able to take any foster cats in any time soon!♥

Hey Catherine, actually from what my vet told me, many FIV+ cats are house cats! If they are free to go outside, there is always a possibility of them getting into a fight with a feral cat that carries the virus. In that case if you want to find the cat a buddy, it’s nice to have an organization like this where you can find them! The organization gives away 1-3 cats a month from the record I can see, which is not bad at all considering they only house 7 at the same time! It really looks like a cat heaven. I’m sure no cat would mind living there for a while! It’s kinda like kitty Club Med ;)

Tango is more or less used to seeing other cats in the house. I adopted Brownie (who passed away 1.5 years ago) when he was 5 months old. He stayed angry for 3 days but then became the best brother (he would “protect” her from the vet. It was both hilarious and mind-blogging to see). Muffin came when he was 5.5 years old, and he accepted her right from the start. Muffin on the other hand, has never seen new cats around. I think that’s why it took her a bit longer. She’s definitely making progress though!

I want to see Gia! Do you have a pic of her somewhere? ;)

            • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

I definitely agree about keeping all cats indoors… Gia does go out for walks but only when accompanied by people (almost always on a leash!) I feel like 1-3 cats a month is very good. I’m not sure if it’s the same in Belgium, but in the US, it’s something like 4 million healthy cats and dogs are euthanized annually, because there aren’t homes for them, and for cats with FIV+, there’s that added obstacle.

Hahah awww kitty Club Med… that’s what this shelter I’m thinking of looked like too. That’s ADORABLE about Brownie. Do you have pictures of Brownie and Tango? How would be protect her from the vet? :)

Here’s Gia, your typical Garfield-style orange tabby: https://twitter.com/bcrueltyfree/status/287586090733420544/photo/1

            • http://twitter.com/mostlysunnyblog Sunny @Mostly Sunny

My bestie’s cat walks on a leash as well. I think that’s so adorable! I sometimes take Tango out for a “walk” around the neighborhood, which means I hold him and walk a block or two. He really enjoys walking around, but he’s the only cat that does!

I attached a photo of Tango and Brownie. Don’t know what they were looking at but it’s funny. Tango would hit the vet when he reached out for Brownie. Brownie was a sweetie. She never had anything to say about the vet, but Tango really had this “don’t touch my baby sister” thing. He did that even to my boyfriend in the beginning. The boyfriend was not amused ;)

Gia is cuuuute! Almost excited enough to open her eyes LOL

            • http://twitter.com/mostlysunnyblog Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Hmm weird the photo wouldn’t upload?

            • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Grr that’s so weird it didn’t upload. I haven’t tried uploading a photo through disqus, did it show up in the comments box?

Awww that’s so cute, my heart is warmed. :D It’s amazing the things that animals do, such clear displays of emotions and affection. Tango sounds like such a sweetie. Hahah awww at cat-hitting the boyfriend too ;) Gia did that when my friend’s dog came to visit. She just stood watching with her paw up, ready to swat if he got too close. When she was a kitten, I’d take her for walks holding her. I wish I could still do that, but she always tries to wiggle out of my arms whenever she saw a bird or squirrel. I guess she’d get heavy after a while now too haha. She’s not a big fan of being held in general, but she’ll tolerate the 30 second cuddle. Does Tango stay contently in your arms when you walk? ♥

            • http://twitter.com/mostlysunnyblog Sunny @Mostly Sunny

No that’s the thing! I clicked on the icon and picked the pic, but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Tango is super happy in my arms ONLY when we go out for a walk LOL He’d kinda just turn his head around absorbing the sight, and that’s really why I take him. I’ve tried with Brownie and Muffin but the girls seem more scared than anything else, so we never really went far (not that I really go far with Tango. He’s really heavy haha)!

            • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hmm I’ll ask disqus directly, they’re really helpful/responsive. Aww that’s how Gia would be as a kitten, just looking at everything with awe. It’s kind of a good thing that Brownie and Muffin don’t love being outside, less chance of them ever going missing! I feel you on the heavy-cat thing haha… Gia doesn’t even eat that much, but she’s just so big… orange tabby genes I guess ;)

            • http://twitter.com/mostlysunnyblog Sunny @Mostly Sunny

LOL well Tango is an emotional eater like his mama! Muffin is a big-boned girl who nibbles on food often enough, but she also spends a lot of energy playing and running around. So far she stays pretty muscular ;)

            • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Hahah awww Tango’s emotional eating :)

  • http://mybeautysample.com/ Becca @ The Beauty Sample

  • http://twitter.com/MakeUpGuineaPig Christine

Great picks and such a nice idea to share the blog love! :) I’m going to be adding these ladies to my must read lists as well!!! :)

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Aww, you’ll love them, Christine! I get so much inspiration from other bloggers – of course you and Liza’s especially! Covering only CF brands, sometimes there are opportunities/brands I miss out on because I can’t confirm if they’re CF (often it’s like – I truly believe they are but just can’t be 100% sure, so have to pass) and it’s really really motivating to read you and Liza’s blogs. It’s reaffirming that, yes of course we can create totally CF blogs and still show as many innovative, exciting, beautiful products and creative features as other blogs, and help save animals along the way ♥
