BEST OF 2013 | My Favorite Beauty Discoveries

Best Cruelty Free Beauty Products of 2013 BEST OF 2013 | My Favorite Beauty DiscoveriesI feel like I’m constantly finding new products and raving about them here. Rather than posting a long list of favorites, I wanted to keep this post to the absolute top beauty discovers I made this year. When I started brainstorming, these are the products that immediately came to mind. The list could go on and on, but these products are the ones I feel were really in a league of their own.

1. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

No surprise here. My favorite is Radiant Light for gorgeous, can’t-put-your-finger-on-it warmth

2. FLOWER Beauty About Face Foundation - my review

Provides an incredibly skin-like finish at a budget-friendly price point

3. Milani Shadow Eyez Naturally Chic Collection, mattes - my review

Hyper-pigmented, creamy, and long-wearing, I constantly reach for these practical, versatile mattes

4. NARS Powder Blush in Madly

My first NARS blush, which turned out to be my perfect, everyday neutral

5. Zoya PixieDust Nail Lacquer in Godiva - my review

A unique, modern twist on beige-nude with a superb formula

6. Tarte Glamazon Lipstick - my Holiday Look: Red Lips and Subtle Cat Eye featuring Fierce

A first for me: a richly-pigmented, long-wearing lipstick that wears comfortably without causing a hint of dryness

I want to thank all of you who have followed the blog, left comments, engaged on social media, sent encouraging emails, etc. I don’t have words to express my gratitude for all your support – for this blog and for animals. This year was marked with victories for an end to animal testing. We are moving towards a more cruelty-free world and we are all playing a part in it. I wish you all a happy, healthy new year!

What were your favorite products of the year?

  • Lily

Happy new year Catherine :-) I read a lot of good reviews about the Tarte Glamazon Lipsticks. Since they’re now here, I guess I can finally try them!

    • Catherine

Happy new year, Lily! I’m glad they’re available now, they’re great, just on the pricey side ♥

  • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Happy new year, Catherine! I’m still slightly gutted that I missed out on the Hourglass palette, but then again I discovered Guerlain Crazy Meteorites and Les Voilettes this year. It’s a killer combo for my combo skin (see what I did there? :p)! I’m glad there has been some improvement in the animal testing area this year, and I hope there will be more good news in 2014! xx

    • Catherine

Happy new year, Sunny! Thank you so much, it’s been exciting and I think there will continue to be improvements in 2014. I’ve heard that the Meteorites are a bit like the Hourglass powders, so you may not need both, anyway ♥

  • TracyBeautyReflections

Happy New Year Catherine! All the best in 2014! Those Tarte lipsticks look lovely-someday I’ll need to try one!

    • Catherine

Happy new year, Tracy! You too! Yes, someday you must try them… They’re pricey so you could wait for Tarte’s Friends & Family sale (which seems to happen multiple times a year ha) ♥

  • MyLuciteDreams

Love love! I need Radiant and Madly! Well not need :-) great picks from 2012! Wishing you a very Happy New Year friend! xx

    • Catherine

Thank you, Taylor! All the best to you in 2014, too! I think you would looove Madly, especially ♥

  • Phyrra

    Love your choices!

    • Catherine

Thank you, Phyrra! Happy new year! ♥

  • the|avantguardian

It’s always nice to read other people favorites of the year!

    • Catherine

Agreed, I always like seeing what others pick ♥

  • Catherine

Thanks, Emi! YES! I had a feeling they might make them permanent considering how popular they are – and that they’re still available so many months after their original launch. ♥

  • Catherine

    Thanks, Dovey! ♥

  • Jhonea

UGH! Nars blushes have such an awful score on the Skin Deep Database. They are full of cancer-causing chemicals – both for the skin and the lungs. Why ensure the safety and health of animals but not your own body? Especially when there are so many great cruelty-free blushes out there that are also people-safe.

    • Catherine

Hi Jhonea, thanks for that info. What are the ingredients that cause concern in NARS blushes? I see that proplyparaban and triclosan are rated worst by the EWG. ♥
