10 Things for Spring | What I’m Loving Currently

Things for Spring WITH NUMBERS 10 Things for Spring | What Im Loving Currently

I apologize for my limited posting this week. I’ve actually been overflowing with ideas and inspiration, but just haven’t had the time to translate them into completed posts. To get back in the blogging swing, here are the products that I’ve been loving currently.

Shimmering aubergine in NYX Slide-On Pencils creamy, long-wearing formula. I recommend the full line, but this purple is lovely for some added color-that’s-not-quite-color.

I purchased this from Somethin Special Etsy Shop. The fragrance is heavenly. Because it’s an oil and silicone blend, it’s very moisturizing on the skin. I’ve been loving using it in place of a hair serum – it has the de-frizzing properties of a serum and the incredible scent stays in your hair all day.

I first blogged about this in my Hello Beautiful Kit review. Since this moisturizing mascara made its way into my collection, I’ve been using it daily. While it’s called a primer, it can be used both under mascara and on its own. IT Cosmetics plans to release this separately sometime this summer – and I will be first in line to purchase backups!

This $3 elf lip exfoliator is on par with $15+ ones I’ve tried. It’s not at all abrasive, yet removes dead skin while imparting moisture. This, followed by an ultra-moisturizing balm, have been my lip savers through winter.

Since trying the famous BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector, I absolutely understand the hype. It’s actually more shimmery and less subtle than I had expected, but I’d say it still falls in the “natural” end of the highlighter-spectrum. The soft gold color of Moonstone is just stunning  and very versatile.

The beautiful Taylor of My Lucite Dreams received this in a beauty box and found the color didn’t work for her. After seeing that I’d included a similar shade in my Eye-Catchers of Spring post, Taylor so thoughtfully offered to send this my way. And I am so grateful she did. As someone with very dry lips who has always shied away from deeply pigmented lipsticks, the Tarte Glamazon Lipstick is one of those “breakthough” products for me. I’ve never used a lipstick quite like it – and am kind of obsessed. Review to come.

Based on the ingredients and how it functions – to me, UD Beauty Balm is a perfecting, slightly tinted primer. And, as a primer, it works beautifully. Review to come.

I know I’ve mentioned BECCA Mineral Blush numerous times on the blog, but it’s become such a staple for me, it bears repeating. I’m itching to pick up another shade, but can’t decide on which (Damselfly, Flower Child, SweetPea…? Let me know if you recommend one!) For details, check out my BECCA Wild Honey review.

If you’re searching for an affordable, natural-looking brow pencil, look no further than Essence Eyebrow Designer Pencil. For $1.99, you get the most versatile, non-red color, firm and smudge-proof formula, and a surprisingly useful mini brush. Even when I’m not using this pencil, I’ve found myself reaching for the included brush over my full sized brow brushes – I appreciate the precision that it allows.

As the weather gets warmer, my skin gets oilier – but I don’t want to load up on powder. Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray lets me keep my foundation lightweight and dewey, yet in place all day. Review to come.

What products have you been loving?

I’ve been loving Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Tipsy! I asked a friend for it as a birthday present because I had wanted it for so long, and I’m so glad I finally have it! It’s a gorgeous color.

I really want to try a Becca blush! Off to read your review on it now!

The BECCA blush is just such an easy, natural shade – it goes with everything and adds the subtlest sheen… I don’t think I’ve ever used a single blush this consistently! I don’t have Tipsy but I remember it’s a lovely shade… I have the Amazonian Clay Blush in I think Dollface, it’s very pretty and shows up on me, even though it’s quite light ♥

great post! I love the It Cosmetics tightline. wearing it right now. truly a great invention! Tarte Glamazon lipsticks are my favorite. Playful was my go to shade in the fall. I love Becca Shimmering Skin but haven’t tried any of the blushes yet. I’ll add it to my list of products to try for sure!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Thank you so much, Liza! I know, the Tight Line primer is so good, I can’t wait for IT Cosmetics to release it separately. Ahh which shades do you have in the Tarte lipstick? I want to pick up another one but am having trouble deciding which. I want something natural-ish but not too cool or too light! ♥

I have the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal and I love it! I did hear it’s a tamer version even compared with the others in the line-up, but it’s good to know Moonstone is also on the natural side of things! I’m getting really curious about the Tarte lipsticks. People seem to love them!

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Ohh Sunny you have to try them, they’re amazing! I was just about to order another one with the Sephora 15% off code and realized… they’re $26?! When did Tarte’s prices go up that high?! But honestly they might actually be worth it, they’re that good. ♥

      • http://twitter.com/mostlysunnyblog Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh wow, I kept thinking Tarte is in the mid-range price of high-end brands, but apparently things have changed! Still, would love to look into them!

        • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

I know, me too. But it seems they’re right up there with all the highest end now! ♥

Great post, the highlighter and the body spray seem amazing and also the essence pencil, but I have a question UD is cruelty free or not,? It was going to change it laws Im not sure what to think

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Thanks so much! UD is still Leaping Bunny certified & PETA approved, but it is now owned by L’Oreal, which isn’t cruelty-free. There’s a big debate on whether to support cruelty-free brands if they’re owned by parent companies that do test on animals. I personally prefer brands that are cruelty-free and not owned by animal-testing parent companies, but I will support brands like UD if they stay Leaping Bunny certified. ♥

Can’t wait for the Skindinavia review! I had no idea they were cruelty free, awesome.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

I’m so glad they are, too! I was skeptical of setting sprays before trying them, but wow… they really work. ♥

  • http://MyLuciteDreams.com/ MyLuciteDreams

Hi Catherine! I’m so glad your loving the lipstick! You are very sweet :-)
I also adore the Becca Mineral Blushes! They are incredible and blend so well. I have Songbird and I’m hoping they will release some new shades soon. I’m very curious about the IT Cosmetics lash primer

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Ah Songbird is another beautiful color I was looking at… I feel like every shade in the Mineral Blushes, I would get lots of use from. I just think BECCA did such an impressive job with the color range. Ahh if they release more shades, I will be over the moon! I think you’d like the lash primer, Taylor! It really lets you make the most of every single lash, and the ingredients list reads almost like an eye cream, so it feels very nourishing ♥

    Great picks!

      Thanks! ♥

    Love your picks! :)

Couldn’t agree more with the NYX Slide-On Pencils. They’re amazing! I always debate “Jewel” and haven’t caved yet. You may have convinced me! :)

I recently bought one of the Tarte lipsticks too after much debate. I love most things Tarte, but the shades are all SO pigmented that they scare me. And then the price tag – ouch! They’ve gotten so many great reviews though and I’ve seen “Bold” on a lot of people and it doesn’t look as scary to me as I assume it is from swatching it. I really like it a lot and it’s sooo comfortable! :) Every color I swatch looks incredibly loud on my hand though and it frightens me! They’re just SO pigmented! :)

The UD Beauty Balm has such amazing ingredients, but I wish it had a bit more coverage given that it’s called a Beauty Balm, and given it’s price tag! :)

Being a slight lip scrub junkie, I’m gonna have to dry the ELF Lip Scrub! :) And the Essence Eyebrow Pencil sounds promising as well, though I’m currently in love with the Tarte one. When it runs out, I may try the Essence instead of buying an entire new Tarte set just for a brow pencil! :) I need to try some Becca products and more of the IT Cosmetics things. Always so much to try! :)

I can’t wait to see your Tarte review, Christine! I wanted to get another but wasn’t sure which color to pick. I was shocked by the Tarte lipstick price tag. I don’t wear lipstick regularly, I always opt for tinted balm, so I never buy high end lipsticks, but I was so impressed with the Tarte, I was going to buy more with the Sephora CHIC 15% off code. I was expecting they’d retail around $16 – but $26?! Jeez. Tarte used to have 40% off sales annually, if they still do I’ll wait for that. The color I have is SO pigmented and looks gorgeous that way, but for everyday I use it more as a stain, blotting it so it’s far less intense.

Yeah the UD to me isn’t a “beauty balm” (not that I’m an expert, I’ve not gotten too into the whole BB craze)… it’s completely a tinted primer… I got a sample before purchasing, so I knew what to expect – but if I were expecting a beauty balm/something with coverage, I would’ve been very disappointed!

You must try the Lip Exfoliator! It’s SO convenient. I just apply it, let it sit on my lips for a minute, then sort of rub my lips with my finger to take it off. Then apply a balm. It’s so quick and easy, but really makes a big difference. ♥

Look forward to your full reviews on some of these! I need to dig out that ELF lip exfoliator, I bought it some time ago and haven’t tried it yet.

    • http://buyingcrueltyfree.com/ Catherine

Haha I love when that happens, it’s like getting a new product all over again. I think you’ll like the lip exfoliator, it really works well for me ♥
